sAdhana panchakam - tamil

Universe's evolution is driven by a design pattern of an external observer driving the evolution, just by observation. We call this observer, the Atman and the evolution as Brahman. If we develop that detached observation capability in us, the ultimate isolation of mind (ekAnta), then we are in a state similar to that of Atman.
There are five phases in this process.  The first phase is do our work with knowledge, but without desires. At the same time, remove all defects in our work to wash away sins.  The second phase is to develop devotion to an external god so that we don't get attached to the results of our work. It is also the time we learn the vedic verses from other learned people. The third phase is to understand the vedic verses on our own, understanding other arguments and comparing it with vedic revelations. It is also the time to develop that 'Iam Brahman' attitude and abandon the 'I am body' attitude.  The fourth phase is to eat food as medicine, be i…

mAyA panchakam - The 5 ways of evolutionary process

Often people say Shankara 'dismisses' the Universe as 'mAyA'. It is not true.   Shankara simply explains that mAyA is the reason for the existence and evolution of this Universe. That's no dismissal.
In mAyA panchakam, Shankara explains how mAyA works in 5 different ways How mAyA became interpreted as illusion'ma' means 'me'. 'maya' is 'my'. mAyA is derived from maya, which means that is derived from this 'my' identity or 'my' perspective.  When we are filled with 'my-identity' or 'my-perspective' we are said to be under illusion or confusion (bhrama). That's why mAyA is termed 'illusion'.
mAyA is simply the process that creates different identities (ma), different perspectives (aham-kAra) and thus 'differentiates' (vi-bheda). These differentiated identities and perspectives then interact and evolve to create more and more identities and perspectives. This process masks the actual ex…

Shiva Pancaksaram

Shiva is Energy. Energy has 5 characteristics. They are1. It exists outside the matter forms as three primary sources of energy. They are dark energy that expands the Universe, Vacuum energy that fills the empty space and Cosmic Microwave Background that manifests on top the space.  These three are the three 'eyes' or sources of primary energy. These three energy forms exists below the surface like fire resides below the ash.2. Energy exists in multiple forms as secondary energy inside the matter forms. For eg. nuclear energy, atomic energy, chemical energy, mechanical energy etc etc. These multiple forms of secondary energy exists like multiple flowers, flows like a river between the matter forms.3. Energy is 'stored' in matter forms as Internal energy which is the 'Gauri' which is a combination of potential and kinetic energies.4. Energy is 'transferred' between matter forms through various mechanisms like conduction (candra), convection (vaizva-nara…

Sadhana Panchakam

BackgroundsAdhana panchakam is set of 5 stanzas written by Adi Shankaracharya.  sAdhana means a process or 'means' to do something. It could be interpreted as 'practise' as practise is a process/means to accompish something.
The 5th stanza describes what needs to be accomplished. How to remain situated in that para-brahman, in that evolutionary external observing Atman, in a world full of deeds/karma flowing as a chain of bondage from one to another..?
Shankara gives five phases to follow one after another for people to move gradually from their current state to the state of remaining situated with Atman, which is the state of being an observer of ourselves and others.
sAdhana panchakam talks about the phases through which mental maturity has to be accomplished in us. It's not related to age or celibacy status or stages of life, in my understanding.
In my understanding, it's more about moving/evolving from our current state where we perform defect free work with k…

Sri Hari Stotram

Universe is filled with an invisible cosmic milky ocean (paar-kadal) which is called the ‘Higgs field’ now.
Higgs field is ‘condensate’ and ‘milky’ because it is dense and when particles ‘couple’ with it, it gives a force to particles that impedes/stops their motion. This impediment acts as ‘nourishment’ (like milk) for particles to have an identity, interact between them, grow/evolve further.
Since Higgs interaction impedes the motion of particles, Science says it is making particles ‘Colder’. This Colder making Higgs interaction shines/smiles in all the particles, becomes foundation of Universe (paramam padam).
This Higgs interaction with particles causes the property of mass, ‘Vishnu’ in all particles. Vishnu gives rise to Lakshmi, the wealth of the Universe, its varied matter forms. The Higgs interaction that causes the property of mass is ‘Hari’.
Hari, the Higgs interaction remains ‘dissolved’ in all particles and matter forms, while giving them mass, winning over weak decays, cr…

Narayani Stuti from Devi Mahatmyam

In Vedic dharma, divinities are based on natural forces of the Universe.
‘nArAyaNi’ is the total internal energy of any matter form having two parts
1. Not Interacting, Non-Usable energy that drives the ‘Entropy’ or ‘Information content’ or ‘buddhi’ (that drives Sarasvati)
2. Interacting, Usable energy that drives interactions which create new matter forms (that drives Lakshmi).
We invoke this nArAyaNi, the total internal energy in all matter forms and biological beings, which becomes the entropy/information content/buddhi and also the usable energy that drives the physical evolution.
Below is the tamil translation of the sloka. புத்தி வடிவமாயிருந்துபுகுந்துள்ளதில்  வீற்றிருந்து

Mahaganesa Pancharatnam

Vinayaga (in matter forms) is 'Work' or 'Action' or 'வினை' in tamil. It is the 'Work' in science parlance as well.In science, the property of Energy (Shiva) added to a system has two effects. It results in 'Work' or 'Heat'. 'Work' is the vinayaka. 'Heat' is the Skanda.Work in matter forms take five different forms. They are1. Work in terms of change in position or motion2. Work in terms of  change in 'Pressure' and 'Volume'3. Work in terms of change in potential due to moving of charge in electric field4. Gravitational Work in terms of change in potential due to moving of object due to gravity5. Quantum work in terms of  change in quantum energies at quantum level. The pancha-ratna deals with this 'Work' or 'Action' or 'வினை' in these five forms.

Ashtalakshmi Stotram

Ashtalakshmi stotram tranlsation in Tamil and essence in English.

Ashta-Lakshmis are the eight attributes of matter forms and biological forms.

In matter forms. the eight attributes are Wave nature, Particle nature, Pressure, Mass, Volume, Velocity, Entropy and Enthalpy.

In biological forms, the eight attributes are Consciousness, Metabolism which is the ability to consume other forms and use them as energy source, Ability to handle pressure/Courage, ability to control/rule over other biological beings (humans/animals etc), Expansion/Pro-creation, Winning over physical and mental spaces, Increasing Knowledge and maintaining Physical/Mental energy which is Health.

Brahma-anda are the matter forms in Universe. Pinda-anda are the biological forms. As the pindAnda follows the same design pattern as the brahmAnda, this stotram invokes the ashta-lakshmis in the Universe, in all the biological beings and in us too, giving us the ability to grow, prosper and evolve.

kAla Bhairava Ashtakam

The forward only moving ‘Arrow of Time’ or ‘kAla’ is the most frightful divinity in our Universe. ‘kAlA’ is synonymous to ‘death’ because arrow of time and death cannot be reversed. This irreversible, fearful perspective of arrow of time is the kAla bhairava. Science recognizes today eight ‘arrows of time’. There are eight (ashta) kAla bhairavas. The eight slokas of kAla bhairava ashtakam point to these eight arrows of time in the way they characterize the kAla bhairava.

Lakshmi nRsimha Karavalambam - Translation

Adi Shankara's Lakshmi nRsimha Karavalambam translated and sung inTamil, essence in English.

Adi Shankara says Lakshmi nRsimha is like the 'Palate'. Our tongue vibrates and strikes against the Palate to make meaningful complex words. Likewise vibrating particles strike against the Higgs field and make meaningful matter forms.

Shiva Thandava Stotram

Shiva Thandava Stotram is generally sung for either the music content or with bhakti bhaav. But it has a scientific content that talks about what is Shiva Thandava.

Shiva is the property of energy. Shiva thandava is the ultimate vibrations of energy, the underlying cosmic rhythm or rhythmic beat of mrdangam or dumru,  in every matter particles explains this stotram. It also says depicts how Universe evolves in the 'matted' hair of Shiva and what it means.

Listen to the translation in tamil. Read the essence in English.

A look back at our understanding till now..

Background As I travel through the Vedas and Upanishads, here is a look-back or  gist of my understanding, as it stands now. This is a summary of my understanding spread over many blog posts and few of my books.
It's a challenge always to have a starting point in describing Vedas and Upanishad, like starting in a limitless expanded space. I am starting at some point arbitrarily. Devas - Adityas, Rudras and Vasus Let's start this from the 'devas', which are more easily understood. Devas make our Universe.
There are 33 devas, of which there are 12 Adityas which are primitive (pre-molecular) matter forms and processes born out of creative energies, 11 Rudras which are 11 force-fields of Universe, then there are 8 vasus, which are eight states of atom/molecules based matter forms.
The 12 adityas, the pre-molecular matter forms and processes are divided into 8 pre-molecular matter forms and 4 processes. The eight pre-molecular matter forms are
1. Urukrama or Vishnu, the …
